This is my first ever external hard drive purchase and it has gone great. This little thing stores everything I need it to and does not complain, but of course you better use the NTFS file system if it wasn't already defaulted on your drive, but it seems as though only the older drives were default formatted to FAT32.

It's size is nice and small, I would not recommend carrying a hard drive in your pocket but it fits great in a cargo-short pocket. Despite what anyone may tell you, 250GB is enough space for pretty much any person even though there are 1 terabyte sized drives out there. I like the glossy surface but I wish that manufacturers would start using a material/finish that does not smudge so easily (think iPods and their metal backs).

I've had this for approx. six months now; works great. I've stored approx. 45 5 GB cd and/or dvd discs on this, books, pictures, songs, etc., and it's not even half full. It's shiny plastic. And it scratches. So do your glasses if you get them next to something abrasive. So buy a cover if you don't want scratches. I gave up; found it easier to let it get scuffed. Too much trouble taking it in and out of a case. 2) They ordered the 500 GB and got a 320. Not WD's fault. 3) It stopped working. Never had the first problem with it not working. 4) It didn't work with certain computers. I've had this on four different computers with four different Windows programs, and it's worked on each one. It even works beautifully with my Acer Netbook. 5) Problems with USB ports. What problem? You just plug it in. I can't find a USB port that doesn't fit it! (This one still puzzles me . . .) I've used this for everything from storing things to download for other folks to using my files to teach classes by projecting its content through a computer-projector thing. It's worked beautifully for everything I need. I'm going to buy a My Book next. Don't know why. Don't need the space, but it tears me up that I bought the 500 GB instead of the TB based on the TB's bad reviews. Having read the bad reviews of the 500 GB, now I'm thinking: What's bad about it (and how bad could the TB really be)??!!
