I purchased this USB WD Passport drive just to have some portability with my laptop and some larger files and folders. I don't use it as my main backup becasue that's done by my WD My Book. Just becasue this is small doesn't mean it can't perform. I plugged it in my USB port and it was instantly recognized and ready to perform. I can easily take this with me without the need for any additional power cables. The short USB cable may be a hinderance with some if you don't want the drive real close. I use this drive to carry files between my laptop and main computer when the two aren't networked. Sometimes I find it easier to load the Passport and take it with me, especially when I need to transfer a lot of files to a different computer.
