all the WD drives i ever had failed, but after a 5 year break i figured i'd give them a try again since this approach is more convenient than buying drive and enclosure seperately.
every 10GB or so of copying onto it, the drive just disappears and reappears as a different /dev/sdN with weird write errors in dmesg. ive used numerous flash and hd based USB storage devices over the years and never had another one do this.
so i guess its my fault for thinking anything has changed with WDGet more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
