Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black) Right now

I got this hard drive both to back up files and to make it easier to share them between three computers. First, it failed to be recognized as a drive either on my XP desktop or my Vista laptop. I hopped online (google "wd passport problems") and there are hundreds of complaints about this model. It draws more power than can be supplied via normal USB 2.0 ports, so you have to spend extra money to buy a y-cord which connects it to two ports. I did this, but then it froze up my XP computer for fifteen minutes every time I booted up, crashing it occasionally.
Anyway, I disabled Autorun, and tried other tricks for about a week, and it's still slow and glitchy. It works differently on each computer I have, so I suggest you borrow one from someone and try it out on a few computers before you put down any cash.Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
