I got this portable USB hard drive because I had a larger 3.5" external hard drive in a custom enclosure, and it was taking up too much space--plus it was extremely loud. This is a great replacement. It is definitely not as fast, but it is tiny, silent, and the price was great on Amazon. I am glad to have this because it will be easy to take with my anywhere (the other one required an AC outlet; this is powered off of the USB port). The included cable is very short, but it wasn't a problem for me since it just sits next to my laptop. Also, the USB cord actually stays plugged in on it's own! My last drive's cable would fall out at the slightest bump. This is definitely an upgrade, and if you're looking for an external hard drive that is easy to take anywhere, this is the one to get.
