I decided to purchase for my wife a gadget that she needed at least as much as I. (Not that a portable external hard drive should be considered a "gadget" for someone who teaches CS.) But my mistake was in trying to save a few bucks. First, I went with Acomdata which, despite firewire and usb adaptability, proved itself unequal to the task in the first week, thereby permitting me to return it and exchange it for an Iomega drive, which unfortunately ran flawlessly for over a month, past the point of return. (She transports her drives to and from campus on a regular basis, connecting them to a host of Macs and PC's.) Her previous Passport hadn't missed a beat in over six years but was only 80 gigs, so there was no longer any choice to be made except size and color. 500 GB and azure blue it was, and she's a happy camper once again. Except for the times the drive gets misplaced which, given the Passport's compact size (these things have shrunken considerably in the past several years), is not an uncommon occurrence.Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
