I hate synch software, and refused to look at all the garbage this drive came with.
I got the 320 GB pink model (didnt exist in the 500GB here) and added 78GB of movies, all about 700MB each. I then tried to add a 4GB file (A DVD image) and it errored out (THE DISK IS FULL, TRY AGAIN) because it was FAT32! UGH! Fat32? COME ON!
Deleted all 78GB of movies, reformatted in Windows (NTFS and Quick Format), deleted all the useless software it came with, and then I had no problems putting many many files of all different sizes on it.
Comes with nothing but the drive, and 4 small attached pads on one side. NO CASE or anything, and a 12-inch or so mini-USB cable in white.
The LED on the end is VERY bright, and white. Not good in a dark room.
The case is plastic and shiny, but didnt seem to get fingerprints very easily.
Not the best value in April 09 at $98, but I wanted pink. Drive gets warm to the touch, but not unbearable or anything that would let you think it is being overworked.
Quiet, unlike their desktop drives.Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
