This is my 4th Western Digital Passport. The other three have been great, but this one makes loud and annoying beeping noises at random intervals, even when the computer is idle. I think it has something to do with fluctuations and spikes in its power supply and demand. I've tested it on different computers, all with NO OTHER DEVICES plugged in to a USB port and still have this problem. I did some searching on the web and in Western Digital forums and see other references to this problem. I emailed customer support and they could not solve the problem (because its a design flaw, IMHO). It is a deal killer (for me) if you want to leave this thing plugged in for anything more than quickie use. Too bad.
