So I got this cute little drive so I could backup my pictures and music and stuff without lugging out my big old western digital drive, finding a cable, finding a place to plug it in and finding a surface to rest the giant thing. It works awesome on my friend's mac - like everything else, just plug it in and it work like a charm. I was able to transfer all my music from the old drive to the new one through his mac. And then I go to plug it into my old Dell 600m and all I hear is clicking from the drive. After much internet research, I find that my usb port does not have enough power to run the drive, so I need to get a y-cable to use the power from my second usb port to run it. Except I only have 2 usb ports, so i would be unable to sync my ipod with the drive plugged in to both the USB ports. So this was basically a big waste of money on my part until I get a new computer. It made me sad. Shame on Western Digital for not letting you know that this was a potential problem before you bought it. If you have an old laptop -- think twice before buying this drive, because you may not be able to use it!Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
