First of all, I had no idea it was this small - pocket-sized, not much bigger than a deck of cards. Not only that, but it doesn't require a separate AC adaptor - the unit is powered via the USB cord. All of which means that portability is fantastic - I'll be taking this on business trips just to make sure I don't lose any family photos if something were to happen to my computer while away.
Secondly, this thing is ridiculously easy to use. Just plug it in to a USB port and you're ready to go. There is backup software included, but you're just as well off using copy-and-paste or your own automated script (if you know how to write batch files).
I've been using this for periodic backups (photos, mp3s, Word documents, etc.) with no problems whatsoever.
My only suggestion would be to also purchase some sort of case or sleeve for it - something to keep it free from fingerprints, scratches, etc. - I'm currently using a small Crown Royal bag!Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
