I bought this for photo backups. When I got it there were no real instructions to explain what needs to be done. However I was able to plug it in and my computers did read the new drive. However the sync software that is on this harddrive does not work on any of my three computers. (one has Vista and the others have XP) Even after going to the online tech support I can not get the sync program to work.
But I am able to click and drag what files I need to transfer.
I also learn for some reason that you can't just use any usb cable you have lying around. It seems only the USB cables that came with this device allows it to work. Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
