Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black) Top Quality

The good:
I bought the WD Passport Essential drive for backing up critical files on my laptop. As a simple backup drive, its great. Very compact, lightweight, and I don't need to lug around a "wall wart" to plug it into the AC- it's powered directly from the USB port. So, I only need to take 1 cable with me (a standard USB to USB-mini that I carry anyway for charging my blackberry).

The bad
I tried using the WDsync software that comes on the drive to sync / back up my laptop files. Unfortunately, I didn't check any of the forums or other feedback before doing this, else I would have discovered the numerous reports of installation / corruption issues. Repeated attempts to install the software on my Vista laptop failed. What's worse is that though Windows showed no software installed, WDsync corrupted some registry entries that made Outlook and Word 2007 unusable. I spent several hours undoing the damage WDsync had caused!Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black).
